Paz SAR / MicroSats

PAZ is an X-band SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) spacecraft based on the TerraSAR-X platform, to serve the security and the defense needs. The PAZ mission is a dual-use mission (civil/defense) funded and owned by the Ministry of Defense and managed by Hisdesat (Hisdesat Servicios Estrat├ęgicos, S.A., a Spanish private communications company providing also its services to the Ministry of Defense, since 2001. MicroSats are a step towards the constellation initiative SpaceX is developing and seeking authority to launch and operate two test and demonstration satellites over the course of 24 months. These are experimental engineering verification vehicles that will enable the company to assess the satellite bus and related subsystems, as well as the space-based and ground-based phased array technologies. The company may seek further authority for subsequent test and demonstration satellites.
